EXPLORE LAGOON: PIONEER VILLAGE TOUR: Town Hall

TOWN HALL

At first, this was just the Town Hall. Later, the fire engine was moved in here from the Old Engine House (probably to keep it out of the weather) and the sign out front was changed to say "Town Hall/Old Engine House". The new sign omitted the name "Old Engine House" and the fire engine was replaced by older horse-drawn vehicles, more like those that would be in use in the 1890s. It's unknown why the engine was taken out or if it's the same one that has been sitting under a tarp near the first hill of the Roller Coaster. Also featured here is an authentic jail from Kimberly, Utah and a mayor's office.

"The American System of Democratic Government developed, to some degree, from early town meetings. Men elected their officials and freely debated their personal beliefs. The town hall usually housed the local police and fire department and is a reminder of the ideals important in early American Life."
