history & info
The Tilt-A-Whirl is one of the most popular flat rides ever. The cars spin freely as they circle around the uneven platform's waves and dips. Riders can attempt to spin their car faster if they wish.
Lagoon installed their first Tilt-A-Whirl in 1929. It didn't last as long as the current one, which was built in 1954 in the area now occupied by Sky Coaster. It moved to its current location by 1988 when the Sun & Fun Theater was built in that area. It was painted in the original red, white and blue for many years. Recently, the color scheme was changed to yellow, red and purple.
Herbert Sellner started out building water slides and got the idea for the Tilt-A-Whirl while playing with his son on his kitchen table. His ride debuted at the Minnesota State Fair in 1927. They later developed other similar rides and all of them are still manufactured in at the original factory in Faribault, Minnesota.
