history & info
Terroride is a classic dark ride. Once you pass through the thick double doors you are led past some frightening scenes, King Kong and more.
A few people have speculated about who originally designed this ride. One possibility is Bill Tracy, a famous dark ride designer from New Jersey. There are several interesting features on this ride including the mural in the loading area. Some have said there is a story behind it, but no one has been able to tell me much more than that.
Many changes have been made to this ride since it opened in 1967. There are still speakers built in to the cars which haven't been used since an overhead sound system was installed. King Kong was first used for the Haunted Shack which closed in the early 1980s. The skeleton out front that looks through the shutters used to have a bigger head, but around 1999 or so, it was switched with a smaller one. In recent years, many features have been left in disrepair. Fortunately, after the end of the 2006 season, Lagoon started fixing up Terroride and Dracula's Castle. There are now several new working features that will surprise riders who were used to an increasingly lifeless ride.
