history & info

This track-guided kiddie car ride starts at the small Amoco station and continues past a small pond, crosses two bridges over a stream and returns to the station,

A different car ride called Auto Kiddies was built here in the 1950s. Much of the scenery related to nursery rhymes which tied in with the area (which was then called Mother Gooseland). It seems it was in the 1970s or '80s when the cars were replaced, the track layout was modified and the landscaping changed. Around that time, it became Speedway, Jr. and the larger car ride was referred to as Speedway, Sr.

This ride went through some major changes in 2004 when Dragonfly and Kontiki were added to Kiddie Land. Many of the tall trees were removed around the pond and the pond itself was scaled down. The track was modified again to make room for the new rides and now crossed over two bridges and passed by a miniature house.

I haven't been able to find out for sure who made the cars, track or system for Speedway, Jr. If you have any info, please email me.

LEFT: Here's how the remodeled portions of the ride looked soon after opening in 2004. By the way, the house's address, 375, is the same as Lagoon's. RIGHT: Speedway, Jr. three years later.

This view of the ride in 1987 shows the old pool behind it. The small building in the background is about where Rad Brad's and the entrance to Lagoon-A-Beach is now.
