history & info
Riders are pulled up to 150 feet while hanging from very strong cables. One rider is designated to pull the rip cord when they are ready. When the cord is pulled, they are released and drop to just six feet above the ground before soaring out over the trees. Lagoon claims this could be the safest ride in the park. It holds up to 10,000 pounds safely and was designed to lift a Boeing 747.
The area this ride occupies was the Sun & Fun Theater where diving shows were held. The gate to the theater remained as the gate for Sky Coaster. The Looper and Ferris Wheel were also in this area at some point. This was Lagoon's first ride not to be included with admission since the park switched to an all day passport. The original price to ride was $25 each for one rider, $20 each for two riders and $15 each for three. The prices changed in 2002 to the current rates. These extra-cost rides became known as X-Venture attractions in 2000.
Originally built by Sky Fun 1 in Boulder, Colorado, Sky Coaster rides are now manufactured by Skycoaster in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
