history & info

The Rock-O-Plane is a variation of the classic Ferris Wheel with cars that spin forwards, backwards and lock in place all under the control of the rider. The line for this classic ride is not usually long, but can be slow-moving since only two cars can be loaded or unloaded at a time.

This is one of the oldest rides at the park and still very enjoyable. At one time, it stood just south of the Roller Coaster station. The wheel and supports were painted red and the cars were white and blue. It is now located a little further south on the opposite side of the Midway where it has been for a few decades or so.

Lee Eyerly created a pilot training device in 1929 which was commercially unsuccessful. It wasn't until he took the device to carnivals that he realized it's distinction as an amusement ride and began selling modified versions which basically simulated aeronautic maneuvers. Lagoon has operated several Eyerly rides including Bulgy The WhaleThe Looper, Octopus and Roll-O-Plane.
