history & info
This is a classic ride similar to rides like Caterpillar, Matterhorn, etc. It only rotates in one direction now, but it's been said that it used to rotate backwards after spinning frontwards for half of the ride. According to Sid, "Lagoon put a stop to this due to the extra maintenance and strain on the motors and brakes."
Before Musik Express, there was another ride much like this on the North Midway called Zugspitz. One of the differences between Musik Express and Zugspitz was that the cars were suspended so they swung outward during the ride.
Musik Express was designed by German designer Franz Mack who was recently inducted into the International Association Of Amusement Parks And Attractions (IAAPA) Hall Of Fame. A distinction shared by Walt Disney and Lagoon's own Robert Freed. Franz and his brothers took over their family's company which was founded in 1780 as a carriage and stage coach company. Through the decades it had evolved into a manufacturer of carousels and other amusement rides. Lagoon's original Wild Mouse was also a Mack ride.
