history & info
The Centennial Screamer is a Huss Enterprise which was based on a similar ride concept by Schwarzkopf. In many ways it's like a new take on the Ferris wheel. It spins at higher speeds and loads much quicker by being lowered by the center arm onto its side. After loading, the wheel spins causing the gondolas to swing outward.
This ride opened in 1987, the same year as Turn Of The Century and were both named in reference to Lagoon's 100th anniversary which was celebrated that year (even though the 100th anniversary actually occurred in 1986). Screamer was ready on opening day, but Turn Of The Century opened later in the season. The area where Screamer stands was once occupied by The Rotor.
Huss Maschinenfabrik is a German company that began in 1919 producing ship equipment. They ventured into making amusement rides in 1969 and it is now their only business. Other Huss rides that have operated at Lagoon include Cyclone, Tidal Wave, Tri-Star, UFO and The Whirlwind.
