history & info

Each whale carries one child around the circle as they move up and down as if cresting waves. This ride is pretty tame and is usually more popular with smaller children.

The whales are now grey and white, but were recently black and white, possibly made to look like Shamu. Bulgy has been moved around quite a bit recently. It was originally located just south of Sky Fighter and not far from Moonraker and Speedway, Jr. When Kontiki and Dragonfly were installed in the area, Bulgy moved next to Baby Boats where it opened 10 April 2004. In 2006, Dinosaur Drop and Ladybug Bop moved in, forcing Sky Fighter to find a new spot. Sky Fighter moved to Bulgy's location and a chunk was taken out of Putter Around The Park around the first hole for Bulgy. A fence was built around the ride and large "Bulgy The Whale" lettering was added mid-season.

Lee Eyerly created a pilot training device in 1929 which was commercially unsuccessful. It wasn't until he took the device to carnivals that he realized it's distinction as an amusement ride and began selling modified versions which basically simulated aeronautic maneuvers. Lagoon has operated several Eyerly rides including The LooperOctopus, Rock-O-Plane and Roll-O-Plane.
