EXPLORE LAGOON: PIONEER VILLAGE TOUR: Blacksmith
BLACKSMITH

"Originally from Cedar Fort, Utah, this shop was built in 1858 to meet the needs of Johnston's Army, stationed at Camp Floyd. The original tools are still in the building in addition to tools and iron parts brought from other sources. After World War II, the 'Smithy's' gradually disappeared, but, a record of that once vital industry, a necessity to every American community, has been preserved in this display."
The tools here came from seven different blacksmith shops. As recent as the mid-1990s, George Simmons would be here on Saturdays during the summer to give demonstrations of how things were done in a blacksmith shop.
