FARMINGTON CREEK TRAIL IS EASY ENOUGH FOR STROLL
Davis County Clipper
5 Jul 2007
FARMINGTON — Sometimes hiking can be a strenuous activity, which can discourage people from even starting. But the Farmington Creek trail is so simple to get to and easy to hike it’s great even for a Sunday stroll. Using this trail is quite enjoyable as it is all paved and takes the traveler through the heart of Farmington. It winds its way around and over Farmington Creek and scoots by the edges of Lagoon. A couple of neat old time bridges cross the creek and gives the path character.
For the most part the trail is cover by large trees so keeping cool shouldn’t be a problem on this outdoor excursion. Plus picnic tables and benches dot the path every so often inviting you to come back for a picnic or spend a few moments relaxing.
The Farmington creek trail can be accessed from many different spots, which can be helpful. One place to start is by the Farmington Pond. To get to the pond from the courthouse on Main Street in Farmington head north on Main, then turn east on 600 North. Travel east until you hit 100 East, then head north.
Watch for the signs that lead to Farmington Pond and head there. The road will fork as you get closer to the pond; take the left fork to park by the pond. From the pond the trail heads south. The Farmington creek trail is pretty long but this section of the trail is about three miles and ends at State street and Clark Lane. According a brochure put out by Farmington city in 2008 the path will continue over the free way, and end around the Davis County Fairgrounds.
This path is open to hikers, bikers, horse back riders, and in the winter time cross country skiers. Since the whole path is paved and only one or two small hills to worry about the only thing tricky is staying on the trail. Because it runs through the city some parts of the trail cut through cul-de-sacs and other streets, but signs and gates mark the path which are pretty easy to find.
Enjoy the simple and relaxing path great for a nice jog, or a Sunday stroll. Have fun and happy trails.
