BRYCE FISHBURN ON HIS FIRST SUMMER JOB
Salt Lake Tribune
4 Jul 2005
This summer, Bryce, 14, is working in food service at Lagoon Amusement Park in Farmington. He will be in ninth grade at Syracuse Junior High School in the fall.
I applied to work at Lagoon because it is one of the few places where they hire 14- and 15-year-olds. You have to be 16 to work on the rides, but I like food services because I like cooking things. We get to make cotton candy and dip caramel apples. We bake cinnamon rolls in the microwave. We take turns making stuff and working at the window.
I have tasted everything we make. It smells good. Sometimes you get hungry just working here.
I work three to five days a week, but not after 8 p.m. We [who are 14 or 15] can't work more than 8 hours a day.
I lkike working at Lagoon. It's fun. We get some discount tickets for our friends and some things are free. I have been on nearly every ride. But not the roller coaster. My favorite is bumper cars. I like Pioneer Village and Rattlesnake Rapids, too.
We live in Syracuse and my parents drive me to work. My mom also had her first job at Lagoon.
I saved my first paycheck. I am paying off a laptop computer. I would like to work at Lagoon every summer. And even when I am 16, I think I will want to work in food service.
