SALT LAKE CITY -- Calling it a cultural icon of Utah, state legislators recognized Farmington's Lagoon Wednesday, reminiscing and thanking the Freed family, owners of the amusement park, for more than a century of good times.

"Congratulations from the state Senate on 120 years of being around," said Sen. Sheldon Killpack, R-Syracuse, and a former employee of the park.

Several senators stood to express their own gratitude for the family-oriented services and good business practices the park has demonstrated over the years.

Sen. Dave Thomas, R-South Weber, also thanked the management team for the impact on the youth in the state as a major employer during the summer season.
